HP Printer Won’t Print

SOLUTION 1: Check the HP Status of the Printer

Let’s begin with the simple and obvious things first about why the HP Printer won’t print.

1) Ensure there is enough paper in the paper tray for your HP printer. If there is paper, ensure that none of it in the paper feed is stuck or jammed. If there is, please check the best way to extract the paper with your maker, as you do not want to damage the internal motor or paper feeder, this might be one of the main reasons why the HP Printer won’t print.

2) Is it empty with your ink or toner? To check the ink levels or the toner level for your printer, consult your own printer manual. The latest HP printers can view the ink levels easily or if there is an ink problem on the HP printer’s front screen.

If your HP printer needs to be serviced, you may need to contact HP directly via customer support.

SOLUTION 2: Cancel all Work for HP Printer

On your HP Printer, clear out stalled print jobs

This is a little more technical that you can’t give it a shot, but not too advanced. Work that you send to it for printing can become stuck in the print queue several times throughout the life of an HP printer.

If the job in question remains in the print queue, it will prevent the HP Printer won’t print from usually occurring on your HP printer. Clearing the print queue of all jobs in this case will help to get the newer print requests to go through just fine. We’re going to start!

1. Go to your Windows Control Panel and pick “Printers and Devices”

You can enter your control panel by typing the ‘Control Panel’ key in the Windows 10 search bar or in older versions of Windows by pressing the Window logo key and the ‘R’ key on your keyboard at the same time as opening the Run dialogue. Type ‘power’ in this dialogue, and click Enter. In most Windows operating systems, this will open up the Control Panel.

2. In the list of printing machines, find your HP Printer and make sure it is the one for which you have problems. Right-click on the printer, and from the drop-down column, pick See What’s Printing.

3. Click the “Printer” menu at the top right of the screen when the new page opens and pick “Open as administrator” from the drop-down menu.

4. In the top right corner of AGAIN, open the ‘Printer’ menu item and click ‘Cancel All Papers.’ A confirmation dialogue window can open at this time and you need to confirm that you want to clear all documents in the print queue by selecting “Yes”

Try running a print on that HP printer again to see if that was the issue. Please try the next steps if that hasn’t succeeded.

SOLUTION 3: Set the default printer for your HP printer

Do you send your print jobs to the incorrect printer? Let’s look!

Usually, Windows can send the print job to what is called the default printer when you submit a print order. If your printer is all wired up, but there is nothing to print, it may be that your Windows HP Printer is not set to normal.

So all your requests for printing do not go to your printer, but into a blank space of no return. Let’s verify this and make sure that the default printer is your HP.

2. In the list of printing devices, find your HP Printer won’t print and make sure it is the one you have problems with. Right-click that printer and from the drop-down menu select ‘Set as Default Printer’. Please make sure you click “Yes” if a confirmation prompt exists.

Now you should see a nice little green check mark below your HP printer icon, which means it’s the default Windows printer now.

Go and try to see if that helped you with your printing!

SOLUTION 4: Troubleshooting HP Printer, HP Printer won’t Print

So, The lights are on, and are they plugged in?

Asking doesn’t hurt. There are some really simple troubleshooting items you can do to make sure that if it stops working or has never worked, you can print on your HP printer.

Second, check the wall power connecting cables to the HP printer power connector. Then, check the cable from your printer to the Windows PC it could also be connected, is the USB cable on both ends firmly in place?

If there is a network cable running for HP network printing to the HP printer, make sure that the Ethernet cable is snug and check your manual to see if a network connection should be indicated by lights blinking.

Are there lights on your HP printer in front of you? Try unplugging it and plugging it back in if they aren’t and the printer doesn’t appear to be turned on. Then make sure the power button on the printer itself is pressed. If the light still doesn’t come on, just in case the outlet is out, maybe try another power plug in your house.
